11/1/2022 0 Comments Grateful dead europe 72After ackowledging that this show had “one of the few double encores of the tour”, Silberman closes his piece by quoting lyricist Robert Hunter who, realizing that “worlds cannot be saved” declared that “we learned to dance on graves and be glad.” Įurope ’72, Vol. In the liner notes for the show on 4/29/72 Steve Silberman starts by revealing that the “ragtag band of Northern California freaks” felt like Germany was “a country haunted by the past”, with “dream-castles shimmering on the Rhine”, “ghosts of Nazi kommandants“, “and the gods of Phil’s musical pantheon calling the fire of the muses down from Heaven or up from hell.” He goes on to assert that this atmosphere “charged some of the most electrifying performances in the Dead’s 30-year career”, citing “Playing in the Band” which went for “the galactic core just three minutes into the first set” to “Dark Star” which “probe regions of dissonance that would give most latter-day jam bands the vapors” as examples. 8: Rheinhalle, Düsseldorf, West Germany () After describing most of the songs in the single set of music they played at this venue, Jackson decides to focus on “the six minutes after the second verse of ‘The Other One’,” and the idiosyncratic ending to their final song, “which is a mess worthy of the laugh that follows it”, closing his piece with a reference to the fairy tale: “And with that the Town Musicians of Bremen were gone.” Įurope ’72, Vol. He goes on to write that while most “acts probably came to the studio with a good idea of what song(s) they wanted to highlight and knocked it out quickly”, the Dead “played a remarkable 80-minute set that mixed short songs with big jamming tunes”. #Grateful dead europe 72 tvIn the liner notes for the show on 4/21/72 Blair Jackson introduces “Beat-Club” as “Germany’s first major rock ‘n’ roll TV show, on the air monthly (or so) since September 1965” and claims that “everyone who was anyone in rock music in the late ’60s and early ’70s showed up on Beat-Club at one time or another”. In the closing paragraph, the author revisits the topic he opened with in his previous piece, writing that “In the edition of Melody Maker immediately following the Empire Pool shows, even ‘Bolan Mania’ had to take a backseat: most of the front page was devoted to a huge picture of Garcia and his new customized Stratocaster, accompanied by a headline reading ‘Dead storm Britain’.” “ Lambert then describes the two nights at the venue as if they were one long show, writing that “By midway through the second set on opening night … all notions of ‘British reserve’ were clearly out the window” and “on Night Two in London” the Dead took “an even more fearless dive into the deep unreal”. In the liner notes for the show on Gary Lambert continues building on his notes for the 4/7/72 show by stating “Sam ’s instincts proved correct: while no one expected the Dead to fill the Empire Pool, they drew more than respectably-somewhere in the neighborhood of 8,000 paying customers each night”. #Grateful dead europe 72 updateI will update the final dates once they are ‘completed.’ Below that you will find ‘liner notes’ of each of the shows as well. The link to the show directs to a Jambase site which lists background about each show, some tidbits and you can stream versions if you want. So below, you will find information on the tour. So I thought it would be fun to listen to the entire set on my own time as it were. As of this writing () the tour is almost over! I gather that many people are listening to the shows on the date they took place. Vinyl of the complete set but that is never going to happen. I won’t deny it would be fun to hear remastered #Grateful dead europe 72 fullI guess the original album has been remastered and the full tour is slated for a bunch of versions as well. So it came as a bit of shock when I read that it was the 50th Anniversary of Europe ’72. Math has never been one of my stronger points. Photo: Album Cover – Grateful Dead – Europe ’72 It is too late to listen to Europe ’72 set on the day of (50 years ago) but we do have a year, after all.

I have been using this app for 6-7 years, and I used Wunderlist before that for several years (which was aquired by Microsoft and replaced with this app, I believe). I should probably give this app five stars, just because it is pretty good, and it is completely free, but I feel like a little constructive criticism can help to improve the app, so I'll leave 1 empty star as a stretch goal for the developer. Another case of "Apple knows best" and if a millions users sent feedback on this (and they probably have) it still wouldn't be incorporated. With Apple Reminders you can't even print out a list without doing a bunch of copy/paste actions. I honestly would rather use Apple apps when possible, but sometimes you have to forget about who made an app and choose it for the usability. This is the absolute single best function of the app, though all the others are good, too. In other list apps and To Do apps, it takes a combination of several things in a cluttered UX to do this. With this app you can "easily" move any task from any list to My Day with a single tap. The My Day functionality is so much better than any other To Do app's attempt.they're not even close. The font size/type in Microsoft To Do are just a little too small compared to the Reminders app.īut that's the only area where Microsoft To Do isn't better. The only place where Reminders is better is the font size/type and readability. I'm an Apple fan to the core, but the Microsoft To Do app simply outdoes Apple Reminders in almost every aspect of UI and UX. Coast Guard suspended an officer who appeared to be making the hand sign during a Hurricane Florence television broadcast. Using dismounted ground guides in congested or confined areas is critical to the safety of personnel, and to promote safe vehicle operations. The campaign was so successful, the gesture came to be used semi-sincerely by Neo-Nazis, Ku Klux Klansmen and other white nationalists to signal sympathizers in public places. The original idea was to take an innocent and common gesture and arbitrarily transform it into something that would enrage liberals. That started as a hoax perpetuated on the online message board 4chan. We share our passion by helping our Soldiers and Leaders. Mike Gilday, chief of naval operations, said sailors are expected to conduct themselves with integrity and character at all times. The Navy said that reviews of the footage, more than two dozen interviews and background checks by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the FBI determined that the two freshmen midshipmen were participating in the “circle game” with West Point cadets. But others suggested it was part of what’s called the “circle game,” in which someone flashes an upside-down OK sign below the waist and punches anyone who looks at it. The Navy said officials are, however, disappointed in the immature behavior of the students and “their actions will be appropriately addressed.” There was no immediate information about what types of punishment the students are facing.Ĭlips of the hand gestures by the students went viral on social media and immediately raised questions about whether they were using a “white power” sign. 11/1/2022 0 Comments Heavenly bodies birmingham reviewThe primary focus here is on how the bejewelled saints came to be politico-religious tools in the German-speaking Counter-Reformation, their symbolism and status (people named their children after these dead saints, which gives an idea of the high regard they were held in), and how they fell out of favor and into disuse as the world of religion moved into the modern age and what this did to the feeling of community within a village that had hosted these relics, sometimes for centuries. He has provided here a fascinating history of these artifacts and, more importantly, their effect on the people who hosted them. Seriously, though, my first thought, on hearing about this book was "how can I leverage this for a D&D campaign?" Yes, I was in it for the Liches. Hidden for over a century as Western attitudes toward both the worship of holy relics and death itself changed, some of these ornamented skeletons appear in publication here for the first time.". Paul Koudounaris gained unprecedented access to religious institutions to reveal these fascinating historical artifacts. The skeletons, known as the catacomb saints, were carefully reassembled, richly dressed in fantastic costumes, wigs, crowns, jewels, and armor, and posed in elaborate displays inside churches and shrines as reminders to the faithful of the heavenly treasures that awaited them after death. Skeletons of these supposed saints were subsequently sent to Catholic churches and religious houses in German-speaking Europe to replace holy relics that had been destroyed in the wake of the Protestant Reformation. In 1578 news came of the discovery in Rome of a labyrinth of underground tombs, which were thought to hold the remains of thousands of early Christian martyrs. The fully articulated skeleton of a female saint, dressed in an intricate costume of silk brocade and gold lace, withered fingers glittering with colorful rubies, emeralds, and pearls this is only one of the specially photographed relics featured in Heavenly Bodies.
